Hometown Re-Brand
Background Information
In the hometown re-brand assignment we were asked to research about our hometowns and create a logo, brochure, and post card. My hometown, Wakefield, is is a village along with Peace Dale which makes up South Kingstown, Rhode Island.
About the Client
Our professor, John Szymkowicz, hired us as designers to make our hometowns look inviting and to also give the public information about what our town has to offer.
The Challenge
The first challenge that I had encountered was that there is no existing logo for the town of Wakefield. This challenged me as a designer to come up with something new and appealing. During the sketching process I knew I wanted the logo to have a nautical feel to it.
The Solution
Wakefield is known for some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Rhode Island. The sunrises and sunsets gather tourists to the beach at the crack of dawn to take some breathtaking pictures. With this in mind I knew what color scheme I wanted to go with when designing the logo.
After the logo design was complete, it was time to move on to creating the post card and brochure. The main image used for both The post card and brochure is a picture I took when the assignment was ongoing. Then I took the picture into Adobe Illustrator and used a feature called image tracing which made the picture look to be as if it was a painting.
The entire span of the project was around 5-6 weeks. I enjoyed this assignment because it made me feel connected to my town and made me realize how much I enjoy living here. Wakefield is a hidden gem and if you haven’t been, you are definitely missing out on a fun adventure.
