Diorama Case Study
Background Information
Dioramas are replicas of a scene, typically a three-dimensional full-size or miniature model, sometimes enclosed in a glass showcase for a museum. Instead of making a 3D diorama we were asked to make a diorama in 3D space within After Effects.
The Idea
Choosing a topic is always a tough choice, especially if you’re free to pick any topic you can think of. For the diorama I chose an Asian theme. The goal of this assignment was to understand the basics and concepts of After Effects to create movement and flow in the diorama.

The Challenge
The challenge of this assignment was animating the movements how I pictured them to be. Some of the ideas I had come up with proved to be too challenging, to the point where I needed to bring in new ideas. The start of the scene originally was going to have cherry blossoms spinning and then have a cherry blossom tree push the flowers to the side.
My Solution
How did you approach the challenge?
Approaching this challenge there were a few different routes I could’ve gone. The route I chose was parenting the flowers to sliding doors which then opens and closes the scene. Doing so created flow and continuity in the animation where it has a seamless opening and closing.
